About Us

Our Mission Statement

CVEF promotes excellence in the education of students of the Castro Valley Unified School District.

CVEF is a not-for-profit California corporation and is exclusively educational and charitable.

CVEF maintains continuous and open communication with the CVUSD to maximize its efforts and benefit the students and schools.

Giving to Our Students and Schools

The Foundation has several mechanisms for providing support to students and schools.

The Board Members, Officers and Committee Chairpersons are parents who are dedicated to all Castro Valley students and work diligently to foster the mission of the foundation to provide assistance in various forms.

Direct Grants

With the advice of CVUSD, from time to time, the Foundation makes direct grants to the schools to fund specific needs. For example, we provided funds to replace supplies for the science classrooms and to support the school libraries.

Mini-Grants

The Foundation accepts grant applications once a year from teachers, staff, parent groups, student groups, district staff, and other school based organizations for awards up to $1,500. Proposals are reviewed for positive impact on learning, number of students involved, creativity, endurance over time, and feasibility of successful completion.

Mini-grants: Over $14,000 in 2010

Scholarships for High School Seniors

Dr. Mary Jane Stamm Scholarships. The Foundation is the custodian of a very generous bequest from the late Dr. Stamm. The income earned from this endowment provides scholarships of $5,000 per year for four years.

Foundation and Other Scholarships. The Foundation has a robust scholarship program. In 2008, we established nearly a dozen scholarships for students. These include two $1,000 scholarships for college sponsored by the Foundation itself. The scholarships are awarded according to the criteria of each scholarship.

Scholarships: Over $54,000 awarded in 2009

Direct Funding: $200,000 since inception of the Foundation

Non-monetary support: Spring District Science Festival

Non-monetary donations: In-kind donations from Corporate America.

If your company has usable items to donate to the Castro Valley Educational Foundation for use in the schools, please send an email to cvef@comcast.net and someone will contact you to make arrangements.
