2006 Grant Awards 

The Castro Valley Educational Foundation is pleased to announce our grant awards for 2006. Eighteen projects are being funded for a total of $16,208.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Castro Valley Elementary School, $1500
Writer’s Handbook for 2nd/3rd grades
To provide 2nd and 3rd grade students with the Writer’s Handbook, a “student friendly” writing resource book to improve and support grade level writing.

Chabot Elementary School, $1222
Multicultural books for Library
To provide multicultural biographies of extraordinary Americans for school library.

Chabot Elementary School, $1500
Sound system for musical productions
To complete school sound system to be used primarily for school musical production.

Marshall Elementary School, $1000
Music for Minors II program all grades
To provide rhythm instruments, music books, CDs, and other materials to offer music education to K-3 students.

Proctor Elementary School, $1500
US States books for Library
To provide “America the Beautiful” series of U.S. States books that the school library is currently lacking or needs to replace.

Proctor Elementary School, $960
Leveled readers 7-14
To provide “Just Right” leveled readers for guided, shared, and independent reading for K-1 students and struggling readers in other grades.

Stanton Elementary School, $1,000
Music for Minors II program all grades
To provide rhythm instruments, music books, CDs, and other materials to offer music education to K-3 students.

Vannoy Elementary School, $495
Multicultural books for 4th grade and more
To provide books on countries of the world to benefit 4th graders, as well as other students.

Vannoy Elementary School, $746
Leveled readers for Kindergarten
To provide paired fiction/nonfiction leveled reading book sets for kindergarten classes.

 
MIDDLE SCHOOLS

Canyon Middle School, $640
Scanners and flashdrives to post worksheets online – math, science, LA & SS – all grades
To provide scanner and flashdrives to copy worksheets, project models, instructions, and images, which can then be accessed online by all students, parents, and teachers.

Creekside Middle School, $800
45 biographies of current personalities, particularly sports figures
To provide biographies of current personalities, with an emphasis on sports personalities for 6th/7th/8th grades.

 
HIGH SCHOOLS

Castro Valley High School , $1425
6 hominids skull replications for 9th/10th Biology and Honors Biology
To provide six hominid skull replications so that 9th and 10th grade students in Biology and Honors Biology can experience hands-on exploration of human ancestral fossils to better understand natural selection and the fossil evidence of evolution.

Castro Valley High School, $1491
Spanish language materials for Library
To provide Spanish language materials for the library to benefit Spanish-speaking students and students who are studying Spanish.

Castro Valley High School, $266
Projector screen for presentation of graphing calculators for Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and Calculus students
To provide a TI Presenter to enable higher math students to display the screen of their graphing calculator on a projector screen during class.

Castro Valley High School, $393
Miniature figure models and still life models for all grades
To provide realistically-proportioned miniature figure models and still-life models to be used in all visual arts classes.

 
DISTRICT PROGRAMS

Alma Avenue Preschool, $293
“Early Reading First- Classroom Kits”
To provide “Early Reading First-Classroom Kits” to prepare young children to enter kindergarten with the necessary early reading skills to prevent reading difficulties and ensure school success.

Castro Valley Adult School, $800
Multicultural materials for Adults with Disabilities program
To provide books, CDs, and other materials to provide multicultural awareness for students in the Adults with Disabilities Program.

Special Services $136
Training package for ability awareness packages on learning disabilities
To provide ability awareness on learning disabilities for parents, students and teachers.

About the Grant Program
  

Grant Process:

Applications are due February 1 of each calendar year.

After the cut-off date, the CVEF grant committee begins evaluation, and no additional submissions can be considered.

Evaluation of all grants is usually completed  six weeks after the cutoff date.

All applicants are notified of the decision concerning their grant as promptly as possible.

Grants are presented at a Castro Valley Unified School District meeting in April.
