Indre Budvytiene, Clinical Laboratory Specialist

Detailed Description of this Session:

Learn how Clinical Laboratory Scientists help doctors to diagnose parasite related diseases. Discover what parasites look like, how they develop, where they live, and how we get them. Find out what methods and techniques we use in the laboratory to identify them. You will have opportunity to see real preserved worms in formalin jars as well as parasite eggs and cysts under the microscope.

Indre Budvytiene's Biography:

Indre Budvytiene was born on the farm in small village of Lithuania. Being surrounded by nature and animals, Indre knew as preschooler that she would be a biologist. Following the dream she enrolled in Vytautas Magnus University and achieved BS degree in biology. After graduation Indre worked in the ZOO taking care of different animals and Marine Museum studying penguin behavior in captivity. While working she got introduced closer to the microbiology and other laboratory work, which she fell in love with. Moving to United States opened opportunity to study Clinical Laboratory Science at SFSU, achieve CLS License, get the microbiologist job at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, and later finish MS program in Biomedical Laboratory Science. Working as microbiologist at Stanford hospital Indre applies and develops different methods in identification of bacteria, fungus and parasites, as well as teaches students.
